AUTHENTIC SEA/BEACH GLASS JEWELRY - the art of "UP-CYCLING"!

Contemporary pieces fashioned by combining wrapping and weaving techniques that have endured the tests of time with genuine sea or beach glass gems that have endured the tests of mother nature.

Each piece is unique in design and it's own story. You just can't duplicate what mother nature has done to finish these pieces. I truly enjoy the concept of up-cycling, changing an object's perception from cast away to conversation piece.

Have a look around both in my sea glass gallery as well as in my online shop. If you are unable to find the perfect piece already made, drop me a note, and we can discuss customizing a piece to your specifications. Custom Orders are always welcome!

What Is Seaglass? (aka "beachglass")

Briefly, sea glass or beach glass pieces are remnants of glass that have been discarded one way or another into the oceans and lakes, to be processed and polished for upwards of fifty years by mother nature in a way that can never be replicated mechanically.

Pieces vary in quality and color rarity, with white, amber, and some greens being fairly common; pinks, blues, olive greens, yellows, blacks, reds and oranges are increasingly rare. Collectors and enthusiasts know that genuine or authentic sea glass has greatly diminished in quantity over the years with the onset of the production of plastic as well as the bans on dumping.

No two pieces are the same!

About the Designs:

Materials:  (for wire wrapped sea glass)
For pieces in silver, I only use Argentium Sterling Silver.  It is highly tarnish resistant, as the copper alloy traditionally found in Sterling Silver has been replaced by germanium. Argentium silver is brighter than platinum, white gold and traditional sterling.  It is the whitest of them all.  Most of the findings I use are likewise Argentium Silver. For me, it makes no sense to wrap a piece in this highly tarnish resistant silver wire, and then finish it with a Sterling Silver bail.  I typically do not pair the Argentium silver pieces with any other gemstones, as when it does come time to clean them, the pearls, gemstones etc... do not stand up to the cleaning process.

For pieces wrapped in gold, I only use 14 kt Gold Fill wire, as well as 14kt Gold Fill findings. Gold Fill (or rolled gold) has considerably more gold than gold plate. Gold fill wire is made by bonding a thick layer of 10-karat, 12-karat or 14-karat gold to a base of jeweler's brass. Gold-filled products must be a minimum of 1/20th, by weight, of the total piece. It is labeled as 10/20, 12/20 or 14/20, according to the karat used. Gold-filled wire requires no special care to retain its beauty, other than the occasional dip into some jewelry cleaning solution. Many pieces of gold-filled wire jewelry from the early 20th century are still beautiful today.

BEZEL SET Designs and the new “Illusions” settings: (coming soon)

  • I only use Fine Silver (.999% silver) because of the firing involved in producing these pieces.  The other bonus to the fine silver, is that it is also much more tarnish resistant than Sterling silver.

ABOUT ME:

Welcome! My work background has been as a freelance graphic designer, for both print and web publications. That kind of work is reflected in CHYX Media Management.

Wire Wrapping & Weaving Techniques began as a hobby several years ago, having started with hand made personal portrait pendants in gold, silver and in clay. This migrated into my own personal sea glass collection, and has grown into what it is today...... .....contemporary pieces fashioned by combining wrapping and weaving techniques that have endured the tests of time with sea/beach glass gems that have endured the tests of mother nature.

I am currently working on two new styles for mounting sea glass gems into Fine Silver Bezel Mounts.....they will be available soon!

In my spare time I enjoy the company of my family, my dogs, and a small herd of horses.
